Coupling transducers for magnetoinductive waveguides: Minimising reflection over the whole pass band
نویسنده
چکیده
The characteristic impedance of magnetoinductive waveguides is complex and frequency-dependent, whereas the input impedance of standard RF and microwave devices is real and constant. Transducers capable of coupling magnetoinductive waveguides to other devices are, therefore, required for high-performance magnetoinductive systems. The author designed and experimentally realised a resonant coupling transducer capable of minimising reflections from magnetoinductive waveguides over the whole pass band. For a magnetoinductive cable with the resonant frequency of 95 MHz and the pass band between 73 and 174 MHz, the experimental value of |S11 | was as low as −25 dB at the resonant frequency and about −20 dB over more than 90% of the pass band, the most broadband performance achieved up to date. Yet, the transducer has simple design and comprises only three resonant circuits, which makes it a promising candidate for wide-band applications. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A single-lithography SOI rib waveguide sensing circuit with apodized low back-reflection surface grating fiber coupling
We present a single-lithography Mach-Zehnder interferometer sensor circuit, with integrated low back-reflection input and output grating couplers. The low back-reflection is accomplished by a duty cycle apodization optimized for coupling light between single-mode silica fibers and the nanometric silicon-on-insulator (SOI) rib-waveguides. We discuss the design, fabrication, and characterization ...

A new design of resonant coupling transducer that can connect a magneto-inductive waveguide to real impedance is demonstrated. The transducer can provide exact impedance matching at two separate frequencies and approximate matching between, allowing low reflectivity to be achieved over a broad band. The theory is confirmed experimentally using thin-film magneto-inductive cable operating near 10...

We study experimentally the propagation of linear magnetoinductive waves in arrays of split-ring resonators with different orientation and spacing. We summarize our experimental results characterizing the effect of coupling of individual elements in magnetic composite metamaterials. We observe the band broadening due to the excitation of magnetoinductive waves which should impose some limitatio...

A fourth-degree Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) crossed coupled band pass filter for WLAN band is designed by using a new negative coupling structure. It consists of two U shape microstrip lines on top and bottom planes with via holes at the center of them. This paper investigates the phase characteristics of negative and positive coupling structures and their effects. The design, fabricat...

We study adiabatic transformation in optical waveguides with discrete translational symmetry. We calculate the reflection and transmission coefficient for a structure consisting of a slab waveguide that is adiabatically transformed into a photonic crystal waveguide and then back into a slab waveguide. The calculation yields high transmission over a wide frequency range of the photonic crystal w...
